IN HER OWN WORDS: Bunny AugHi! I’m Bunny. How I got into cosplay is an interesting story. When I was in high school a friend of mine invited me to go to a convention with him – Otakon. It was a 3 hour bus ride from my home, and it would have been my first time away without any adults. I was scared to go somewhere unfamiliar without the knowledge of how to get home on my own, so I lied to him, and told him my mother would never let me go. Besides, conventions are just boring meetings right?
So I thought all was said and done – until he showed up on my doorstep the day he was leaving and when my mother answered the door, he asked her if I could go. My mom said yes, handed me a wad of cash and sent me on my way. It was the best decision ever made for me. As soon as we arrived I was thrilled to see people wearing costumes from anime- and other people knowing who they were! This meant I could wear costumes NOT on Halloween, and other people would actually know who I was trying to be! It was all downhill from there.
I am currently based out of Atlanta now, and go to Dragon Con and Play on Con regularly, as well as frequenting AWA and Momocon, and some other smaller cons in the area. I don’t have funding to be able to travel, so while I would love to go to out of state cons, it has to be ones I can drive to, and be able to get an affordable room nearby.
I cosplay any character I like – with preference given to characters that have the same body build as myself. My favorite is Harley Quinn, and I have done a number of variations of her – official and personal. I always have more costumes I want to make than I am able to due to funding, so there is a never ending list of things to cosplay as!
